What is

Also Known As: virus

Severity: pop-ups are appearing because adware has been installed onto your computer. Adware is not a computer virus therefore, it needs permission to enter your computer. And you indirectly give it when you install freeware, one that has adware attached to it, and not deselect the added items. Adware is not going to damage your computer itself but it will frustrate you with never ending pop-ups. Adware aims to generate pay-per-click revenue for sponsored websites and it does that by exposing you to those web pages. As soon as you notice that pop-ups with the URL beginning with are appearing on your screen, scan your computer with a reliable malware scanner and delete Otherwise, you might be putting your computer at risk because adware could lead you to malware.

Users themselves allow and other adware to install because they do not pay enough attention to the freeware installation process. Adware is bundled together with free software and that allows it to install. The only way to prevent that would be to use Advanced (Custom) settings during installation. The added items are hiding in those settings and only there can you deselect them. If you deselect the added items, they cannot install. However, if you choose Default settings, you will be essentially giving the added items the permission to install. Always choose Advanced and you will not have to uninstall or similar.

As soon as installs onto your computer, it will start generating advertisements and exposing you to pop-ups. Adware can affect all leading browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. So no matter which browser you use, you will be exposed to ads. The only way to get rid of them would be to remove from your computer. The ads might offer you to install software or maybe claim that you have won something. Never trust pop-ups with anything. If you install software that was provided by a pop-up, you could end up allowing serious malware to enter your computer instead. If you believe you have won something, you could end up giving your private details to users of questionable nature. Only trust legitimate web pages with secure downloads and never give out your details to anyone you do not completely trust, especially not to random pop-ups that claim you have won an iPhone. If you do not want to end up with malware, you need to delete as soon as possible.
