What is

Also Known As: virus

The hijacker generates shopping advertisements, as they are an effective marketing tool. The windows contain bargain shopping deals, like discounts, sales, coupons, freebies, seasonal clearances, and others. Some of the listings may spark your interest. The longer the hijacker resides on your system, the more appropriate the offers will become. The secluded program tracks people’s browsing sessions and analyzes their behavior. It selects the product line according to the user’s apparent interests. If you have recently been shopping online, you will receive suggestions for clothes and accessories. In case you had gone through renovations, you will be shown furnishing ideas. As good as the proposals may be, they are risky. The hijacker only works for the benefit of its creators. It does not proof the origin of the ads to protect users from security threats.

Another potential threat around the hijacker is having your personal data extorted. The insidious program does not only collect the browsing history. It reaches out to private input, like the IP address, geographic location, email, telephone number, physical registration, postal code, and demographic details. The hijacker also has the ability to record the tracking cookies and keystrokes. They can reveal the login credentials for your personal and financial accounts. The proprietors of the hijacker can sell your sensitive data on dark markets without asking for permission.

There are a couple of ways to contact the hijacker. The furtive program prefers the easiest entry point. It tends to travel with freeware, shareware, and pirated copies of paid tools. The download client hosts the install of the hijacker. The unwanted program gets added to its terms and conditions as a bonus. You can opt to exclude it or terminate the process altogether. This is why we advise users to always read the end user license agreement (EULA) of the software they add to their system.

The other way for the hijacker to enter your machine is through a spam email. The sinister program would be hidden behind an attachment to the letter. The person behind the message will instruct you to open the file, claiming it is an important document. The spammer can introduce himself as a representative of an existing entity. This gives the letter legitimacy. You should not trust emails you were not expecting to receive. If you have suspicions about the origin of the message, do your research. A genuine representative would use an official email account to contact you. Go to the website of the corresponding entity and consult the contacts page.
